Breaking News – Off-payroll reforms in private sector deferred

It was announced last night in the house of commons that the new rules for off-payroll working in the private sector will be deferred for a year – now being introduced from 6th April 2021 instead of 6th April 2020.

This will be welcome news for some, especially those contractors who still have an active engagement through their limited company.  It remains to be seen how those end clients who have already moved all of their contractors to umbrella company models will react.

If you are currently in contract and your end client has previously stated that you will no longer be able to work through your company post 5th April, it would be worthwhile speaking to them to discuss whether you can now continue to work through your company for the foreseeable future.

Although this is welcome news for some, it should be noted that the government spokesman made it clear this was a deferral and not a cancellation.
