Having the right staff is crucial to ensuring that the level of service desired by the directors is provided to our clients.
Our directors believe in a “2 way street” relationship with staff and realise that if staff are happy then there is a much better chance that our clients will also be happy.
In total we have ten staff and the average length of employment is 20 years.
As such our staff have built up significant experience and knowledge in dealing with our clients.
The fact that most of our staff have been with us for a long time helps continuity in dealing with our clients affairs and this significantly adds to the level of service we provide.
Allow us to introduce our staff below:
John Darroch
- Senior Accounts Manager
- Fully qualified ACCA
- Joined the business in 2023
John’s role in the business is to look after our small business clients, ensuring their accounts are completed to a high standard and appropriate advice is given proactively.
Outside of work, John spends a lot of time enjoying his love for motorsport and cars, attending races, events, and karting. He also combines this with travel, and enjoys nothing more than a road trip across Europe. In addition to this, he enjoys spending the weekends at his family's caravan in St Andrews, sampling the latest restaurants and being back in the gym attempting to get fit again!
Darren Wilson
- Accounts Manager
- Joined the business in 2014
Darren’s main role in the business is preparing financial accounts for clients. Darren is also the firm specialist with FreeAgent accounting software, helping clients to navigate the software and ensure accurate completion.
Outside of work Darren spends his days attempting to play golf and his nights walking his dog (again on the golf course!) with his wife.
Nicola Rodie
- Accounts Manager
- Joined the business in 1998
Nicola is an Accounts Senior in our accounts department and has now spent well over 25 years of her career with Grants.
Nicola is available to provide advice on bookkeeping and VAT matters and indeed general accountancy queries.
Nicola spends her spare time with her loving family. Her husband, young son and fur baby takes up a lot of her time. She enjoys her family time with days out and going on holiday. Nicola also likes going to concerts and meeting up with the girls for dinner (and wine!) for a good old catch up.
Paul Hail
- Accounts Manager
- Joined the business in 2008
Paul joined the firm in 2008 and, since then, has built up a wealth of experience. Paul primarily prepares accounts for small and medium size businesses and is always on hand to provide advice or answer any queries that may arise.
When he isn’t devoting his time to his work, Paul is a keen snow and water skier and enjoys keeping himself fit. In Paul’s words ‘I also lead an active social life….when time permits!
Jennifer Boyle
- Accounts Manager
- Fully qualified ACCA
- Joined the business in 2017
Jennifer has been with the firm since 2017.
Most of Jennifer’s time is now spent ensuring our Platinum Plus Service clients monthly, quarterly and annual accounts are prepared accurately as well as providing ongoing advice to these clients.
Sally Farmer
- Payroll Manager
- Joined the business in 1995
Sally is in charge of our payroll department and has been dealing with payroll matters for over 20 years.
With the ever evolving payroll rules, it is a fact that “getting payroll matters right” is more important than ever and Sally being the conscientious person she is will ensure proper compliance for our clients.
When Sally is not thinking about payroll, she enjoys travelling (especially cruises!), eating out, watching her beloved Chelsea FC and following F1.
Nicole Smith
- Tax Assistant
- Joined the business in 2021
The tax department is where you will find Nicole! Preparing Self-Assessment Tax Returns for the firm’s clients is Nicole’s main role in the business. Nicole is also able to advise on payroll matters, capital gains tax and other areas of taxation.
